Using the Print Screen feature on a Mac

Are you a Mac OS X user? If so, you know that Mac OS doesn’t work in the same way as Windows operating systems. For example, the method of taking screenshots is different on both operating systems. If you have been struggling to find a way to use this feature on your Mac machine, please read this guide till the end.

First of all, you will be happy to know that taking a screenshot on a Mac is easier than doing it on Windows. A Mac does not have a Print Screen button. But there are many easy ways to perform this function on this machine. Let’s see how you can accomplish this task with just a few mouse or trackpad clicks.

How to take a screenshot on a Mac: shortcut keys

Taking the “photo” or screenshot of your computer screen is easy with the following shortcuts:

Hold down the Cmd and Shift keys and then press 4

Now, drag the crosshair over the desired area on your computer screen, and then release the mouse button.

· That’s all. The screenshot will appear on the desktop of your machine. The file will be saved as a PNG file with the time and date.

Other method:

Here’s another method, all you have to do is hold down Shift and “Apple Key” and then press 3. It will immediately take the screenshot and save the image to the desktop. Here it is important to note that this method takes the screenshot of the entire desktop area.

Taking a screenshot with this method has a limitation. The resulting file will be in PNG format and you may not be comfortable working with this format. The most common file formats for images are JPG and JPEG. You can convert your PNG screenshots to JPG files to suit your needs. You can use any image editing app for this purpose.

Take a screenshot with or without the shadow effect

You can beautify a screenshot with the shadow effect. How can you do it? It’s pretty simple. Follow the method above, but when you see the cross on the screen, press Space. As soon as you press the button, you will see a camera icon instead of the cross, and the color of the window will change to blue. Now, you need to click to take the screenshot of the blue window. You will see that the image has a beautiful shadow effect.

But what if you want a screenshot without the shadow effect? You can get rid of this shadow without problem. All you need to do is press the Alt or Option key, and the shadow effect will be gone. It sounds strange, but it works.

As stated above, working on a Mac is different from working on Windows, as both operating systems work slightly differently. However, with a little practice and reading, you can easily perform all the functions on your Mac as well. There are many useful sites and blogs out there. And hopefully this one helped you with your problem too.
