Clever uses for carpet scraps

With any type of extensive carpeting job, there will be debris. Most people might consider carpet scraps trash, but if you want to stretch your money, there are plenty of uses for this leftover material. In addition to using them to make rugs, welcome mats and stair treads, there are other creative ideas that will add a lot of value.

silencers

If you’re constantly bothered by the noise of your washer or dryer, try placing some debris under those appliances. Those frustrating thumping sounds are most likely a thing of the past. You can also place pieces of cloth between the washer and dryer to catch socks, rags, or anything else that might fall between them. Just pull out the strip when you drop something and the item will come with it.

pet uses

If your dog is often outside, you can keep him dry during unexpected downpours by waterproofing his doghouse. Nail a piece of material over the driveway and you have a rain flap ready. You can also add leftovers inside to keep it warmer in the winter. Also, if your cat continually scratches the sofa, carpet scraps make great scratching posts. Just staple some cutouts to a board or post, add another board at the bottom as a base, then place it near the sofa.

Keep floors dry and scratch free

If you have houseplants, place some debris under them to absorb excess water and protect the soil. You can also glue small circles of material to chair and table legs to prevent them from scratching vinyl or wood floors.

Protect shelves and tools

Line your kitchen shelves with carpet scraps and no more dealing with rattling noises when putting away your pots and pans. If you have a workshop and the floor is made of a hard material such as concrete, it is enough to put some strips of material on the part of the floor closest to the work table. If tools or containers are dropped, they are less likely to break.

garden uses

By placing the debris upside down and covering it with straw or bark mulch, you will have a garden path that will remain free of weeds. You can even use smaller pieces of material around your garden as mulch.

polish your shoes

Get a block of wood and use epoxy to glue a small strip of material together and you have your very own homemade shoe polish. This approach also works great for cleaning window screens and whiteboards.

The uses for rug scraps are only limited to your imagination; whatever you do, don’t throw them away.
