The white river is quite an attraction for various outdoor activities. It stretches a full 720 miles with many transformations before ending at the Mississippi River. The best attraction, however, is the white river trout fishing habitat created by the dam (Bull Shoals) and is one of the most visited destinations in the state and country. In fact, Arkansas is considered the trout capital of the US.

In addition to the disruptions caused by the 8 dams, these scintillating scenes are present throughout its 720-mile journey to the Mississippi River. The water is so clear that in the words of a famous explorer, “our canoe seemed to float in the air, such is the remarkable transparency of the water.” This is in addition to the vast tourist centers and fishing clubs that have sprung up along the river. They offer all the necessary equipment such as river boats, fishing tackle, bait, expert fishing guides and, of course, personalized service.

Just past Bull Shoals Dam, the White River is home to some of the most spectacular fishing habitat in the world. As a result, there will hardly be a dull moment for anyone going on a fishing expedition to the various white river trout fishing spots. Although other fish are present in this region, trout certainly rule the place. Rainbow and brown trout are particularly predominant in this habitat, although brook trout can also be found, but less frequently. Many of the fishing clubs and resorts have developed entry points to add to the naturally occurring ones. There are also a number of public campgrounds along the White River, especially around Bull Shoals State Park and Bull Shoals Lake.

Many experienced anglers will readily agree that natural bait works perfectly here. Minnows, crayfish, and any of the spinner baits pack a big tip to catch some trout. In fact, the Blanco River is home to quite a few trophy trout and record catches. Remember Gordon Lackey’s monster 31-pound brown trout in 1972 and Leon Wagoner’s 33-pound monster five years later? Surely, you can’t forget 40lb H. Rip Collins who has held the world record for the longest now! All of these were captured at this exact location. Some trophy trout catches are not uncommon on the White River and some monsters occasionally get caught here in the Bull Shoals trout room.

In order to fish in the white river, anglers must have a license if they are over 16 years of age. This is according to the Arkansas Fish and Game Commission. Each angler is limited to just five fish per day and specific regulations apply to select areas. Make sure you are on the right side of the regulations by getting this information beforehand.
