The most surprising football transfer of the season

Twice a year, when the transfer window opens, the soccer world goes wild with players changing clubs, newspapers, and soccer websites all over the world speculating on the latest superstars to play the game of musical chairs.

While some big-name transfers, like Cristiano Ronaldo’s move from Manchester United to Real Madrid, eventually came to their expected conclusions, one transfer caught my eye this season. The one about Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s move from Italian champion Inter Milan to Spanish and Champions League winner Barcelona, with Samuel Eto’o going the other way.

Now, Ibrahimovic is not a bad player and in his day he could be one of the best players on the planet. But, in my opinion, he hasn’t lived up to the massive hype about him. Who can forget the 2 Champions League games against Manchester United last season in which he was virtually anonymous?

Samuel Eto’o, on the other hand, has proven to be one of the deadliest forwards in the world. At only 28 years old, he has his best years ahead of him and, unlike Ibrahimovic, he doesn’t choke on the big stages. Don’t forget, it was his goal in last season’s Champions League final that put Barcelona on the road to victory.

In addition to the player exchange, Inter Milan also received a transfer fee of 45 million euros. I have no idea how it was done, but Inter manager José Mourinho surely negotiated the best deal of the season. Or does Barcelona know something that we don’t? Only time will tell.
