Supercar Profile – Ferrari FF

The Ferrari FF represents a number of firsts for Ferrari, and no, FF doesn’t stand for Ferrari Firsts, although perhaps it should. The FF actually stands for Ferrari Four. The car is a four-seater, which is replacing the outgoing Ferrari 612 Scaglietti. However, Ferrari has made a series of four-seaters before, so that’s not all. No, the second F stands for four wheel drive. This is the first time that Ferrari has used four-wheel drive in a road-going production car.

However, four-wheel drive is not the only novelty of this car. You can’t help but notice the FF’s design, as it’s a radical departure from the cars that came before it. The design is called ‘shooting brake’ and could be seen as a cross between a coupe and a family car. The other way of looking at it is: it’s a hatchback! The interior space this creates allows for up to 400 liters of luggage, but wait, the rear seats also fold down allowing double this capacity. Can you imagine doing your DIY shopping and being able to place everything in the back of your Ferrari?

However, this is not a Ford Focus. This hatchback has a powerful V12 engine up front that produces 660 bhp and 504 lb-ft of torque. That’s good enough to power the Ferrari FF from zero to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, thanks in part to the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission already used in the Ferrari 458 Italia and California. Top speed is not to be sniffed at either: 208 mph. By the way, the 6.2+ liter engine is the most powerful engine Ferrari has ever put in a production car and you might find it quite remarkable that such a unit returns a fairly respectable 18 mpg (for this type of car). ).

The body design is from Ferrari’s favorite styling house, Pininfarina, but you wouldn’t think so when looking at it, such is the departure from previous designs. To be honest, I think it’s going to be a love or hate design, but one thing’s for sure, it’s definitely going to turn heads.

It’s also pretty clear that Ferrari is also trying to increase the size of its target market with this car. The four-wheel drive system, for example, means it will be able to drive in many more variable road conditions, including rain and snow. The shooting brake design means the car is also practical for everyday use, as you no longer need to choose between bringing the kids or doing the grocery shopping.

If this is the way of things to come from Ferrari, then I can’t wait to see what the 599’s replacement will look like.
