Role of personal trainers in preparing athletes for the Olympic Games

We all remember the summer of 2012, the excitement and energy that the Olympic Games brought to London. If you were one of the lucky ones to get tickets, you would have witnessed hundreds and thousands of athletes from all over the world competing for gold, silver and bronze medals in their chosen sport.

The Olympic Games began in the 4th century BC. C., in Olympia, Greece; however, the modern Summer Olympics as we know them today began in 1894. The first sports in which competitors could represent were limited, but now the number of sports that the Modern Olympics are included in the region of 30, but with many disciplines within each sport.

Some data from the London Olympics. London has held the Olympic Games 3 times, 1908, 1948 and 2012. At the 2012 Olympics, the total number of athletes who competed exceeded 10,500. Of those athletes, 205 nations were represented and those athletes competed in 302 Olympic events over a 19-day period. London had to give more than £600 million, but the British economy gained more than £10 billion

Athletes who compete in the Olympics give up a lot to represent their countries in the sport of their choice. For many, the only reason they take up a discipline is to represent their country at the Olympics and hopefully become champions. But what does it take to become a champion and put in a lot of time, blood, sweat and tears to represent your country?

A champion has to have the desire to be the best, have the raw talent in their chosen sport, have to sacrifice a normal life and have to work hard training several hours a day and a week. That’s why only a few of us make it to the finals in any sport, most of us fall by the wayside or just aren’t as good as it takes to make it to the top.

A good analogy to think of is giving the person a sketchbook and a pencil and telling him to draw a picture for the rest of his life, he will most likely get pretty good at drawing and the pictures will get better over time. ; however, put a professional artist alongside them every time they draw their picture and they will improve much faster and become very successful artists.

Many athletes need more than a gym to achieve their goals, they need to help them take the next step, which is why many people turn to personal trainers. Personal trainers are professional athletes who know everything about body conditioning and nutrition. In fact, many former athletes become personal trainers because they are so knowledgeable about what it takes to be the best.

When you first contact a personal trainer, you sit down with your client to decide on a plan and goal for them, discuss their current exercise routine, and review their current nutritional intake. With all this information, an exercise program is prepared, complemented by the correct eating plan.

However, it doesn’t stop there. Throughout the training plan, they will coach the client and give constant assessment and, if necessary, make any changes to the exercise or nutrition plan to keep them on track towards their goal.
