Really Good Telemarketing Tip: How NOT to Sound Like a Telemarketer

If you’re trying to improve your results over the phone, whether it’s telemarketing or telesales, you have a great chance to make a good impression and differentiate yourself from all other telemarketers with this good advice.

Don’t sound like a telemarketer!

Here are (4) good tips you can use to differentiate yourself from the masses of BAD telemarketers.

1. Use a good script, but practice the script to make it sound natural. How to act. A good actor doesn’t sound like he’s acting, right? Strive to make your calls sound like you’re talking to a friend you’ve known for years. This is not always easy to do, but if it sounds natural (with a script), it will create an instant relationship over the phone to generate more appointments, sales, leads, etc.

2. Overcome the common time objection FIRST, then proceed with your call. Make sure your potential customer is willing to listen to you. This means asking, “Is this a good time to call?” This question alone will tell the potential customer that you value their time and prepare the potential customer for what you have to say. If this is NOT a good time, just schedule an appointment and get the prospect’s commitment to have a good time to communicate with them, and put their name in your follow-up file system.

3. Generate a report when you can. Follow the prompts of things you may already know about the prospect and ask questions that get them talking. You can insert sympathy-building questions into your script when necessary to move the call forward. Questions about family, interests, local climate, etc. Person’s questions are great questions to get your potential customer involved in the call. The longer you can hold your prospects’ attention, the better. As long as you move the call toward your goal, anything you can do to create a natural conversation will bring out your potential customer’s real “hot spots.”

4. Enthusiasm! A bad script can be overcome with enthusiasm! Be enthusiastic. This key element can be heard and felt over the phone. You’ve undoubtedly heard bad telemarketers use monotonous and oppressed scripts in their calls. If you can inject enthusiasm, you will be way ahead of other telemarketers. Vary your pitch and tone, use your hands when talking on the phone, and stand up while calling, this will help you make better and more enthusiastic calls.

These tips will help your telemarketing effort no matter what your goals are. By “standing out from the crowd” of telemarketers, you get the edge you need for higher conversion rates, better callback rates, and fewer rejections, making your calls easier.
