Make furniture out of kitchen cabinets

Make your own furniture by combining kitchen furniture in different ways. This can be a weekend DIY project and can greatly increase the resale value of your home. All you need are some basic tools and a lot of imagination, take some time to plan this project in advance and find some nice cabinets. Cabinets can be special ordered, custom built, off the shelf, salvage store used, or used cabinets. from a recent kitchen renovation.

I’m writing this at my desk made of low kitchen cabinets with drawers and a recessed door at the top with the other end mounted to the wall. I’ve seen some nice desks built with antique panel doors with a sheet of glass on top.

Perhaps you need an entertainment center, this could be achieved with one row of wall cabinets on the floor and then the second row could be a cabinet at each end. Finished with a row of cabinets on top with crown molding. All of these cabinets will mount to the wall like a kitchen and will also screw together on the sides that touch another cabinet.

How about a bookstore? Use lower kitchen cabinets with a nice wood or even marble top. Then put a row of wall cabinets right above the counter. For these upper cabinets, you can order cabinets with exterior doors, or simply remove the doors and repair the screw holes. If you need a taller unit, use another row of cabinets.

I have always found a great use for used cabinets in the garage. Lay out a row of base cabinets with a reclaimed countertop and hang wall cabinets above them. This will give you a nice work area and a great place to store all those little things in the garage.

Need more storage in the laundry room? Put a row of cabinets above the washer and dryer to store laundry detergent and all those other things a home needs.

Use some short wall cabinets in the mud room, use a cabinet that goes on top of a refrigerator. You can get 18″ cabinets that are 18″ deep, put a cushion on top of these for a storage bench.

Do you want to combine some furniture in your house? Try unfinished cabinets and stain or paint them to match your existing furniture.

Cabinets can be put to so many uses, use your imagination and get out your tape measure and start planning that new piece of furniture!
