Guide on how to make a refrigerator door handle cover

Your plain-colored or stainless steel refrigerator doesn’t have to look boring all the time. In fact, you can do a lot of things to make it look pretty cool. One of the ideas you may want to try is creating a cover for the door handle. This should help protect your refrigerator from fingerprints.

Here are the steps on how you can do this project:

1. Buy your supplies first. You need to buy a meter of fabric. Choose the type of fabric that will adhere well to the door handle. Silk may not be a good choice as it tends to sag and slip. A good fleece or felt fabric might work best for this project. Choose one with a design that can complement your kitchen design.

If you have an unworn dress with cute and attractive fabric, you can wear that too. Recycling is definitely encouraged for this project. In addition to the fabric, you will also need your tape measure, thread the same color as your fabric, pins and needles, a pair of scissors, and hook and loop fasteners or snaps. If you have a sewing machine, you can use it to make your work easier.

2. Fold the fabric in half. Leave about 3 inches of margin from the crease and cut a strip with about 26 inches of measurement from there. Unfold the fabric strip and lay the printed side down. If you are using a sewing machine, prepare the thread. At the short edges of the fabric strip, hem about an inch. For the longest edge, sew a half inch from the hem. If your fabric is a bit stiff and you are having trouble sewing the hem because it keeps opening, you can try pressing it first. Use a steam iron to press down on the fabric.

3. Attach the velcro or hook and eye closure. Place them on the long side of the strip. A velcro strip should work better, as it is easier to attach to the refrigerator door handle. If you are using a hook and eye closure, mark the areas where you are going to place them. In this way, they are parallel to each other.

4. Beautify if necessary. You can try adding lace details at the hems of the fabric. You can use fabric glue to attach the lace accent. You can also add fabric or stone jewelry for additional decoration. Embroidery is also a good option.

5. Now try the door handle cover.
