Essential Oils – Ravensara – The “Oil That Heals”

ravensara (Ravensara aromatic) belongs to the laurel family of botanical plants and belongs to the genus Cinnamon. Ravensara grows on the island of Madagascar and the oil comes from steam distillation of the branches. Traditionally, the people there refer to ravensara as “the oil that heals”. Its name “ravintsara” means “good leaf” in reference to its multiple health benefits.

How can Ravensara benefit us today?

Ravensara has antitumor, antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal and antiseptic action. It is used for the herpes virus and other viral infections, throat and lung infections, Epstein-Barr syndrome/chronic fatigue, whooping cough, mononucleosis, hepatitis, shingles, cancer, and pneumonia. It is supportive for both the nerves and the respiratory system. This is an excellent oil for sore throats (put a few drops under your tongue or on a sugar cube). The main effect of ravensara is expectorant and antiviral and in this sense it is an excellent option for the immune and respiratory systems. This oil has been compared to lavender in that it is another universal healing oil. As a cross between clove and nutmeg, it can be a great support for the adrenal glands. The essential oil is totally non-aggressive and can even be used near the face and neck without any problem.

Ravensara can be applied neat (undiluted) to the body, directly inhaled, or diffused. In the form of an aerosol, you can breathe very close to the diffuser without any problem. You can apply 2-4 drops on the spot, on the chakras or vitaflex points on the feet as well. For those who may be sensitive and find eucalyptus oils too harsh on their lungs, they will find ravensara to be a better option. Regarding safety, ravensara essential oil is non-toxic, does not irritate and does not sensitize.
