Buy, watch or pass – Week 7

Quarterbacks

Joey Harrington, Miami Dolphins – 414 passing yards, 2 TDs, 3 INT

Daunte Culpepper was supposed to make Miami a Super Bowl contender, but he hasn’t lived up to the player he once was and eventually got injured again. Instead, while recovering, he meets a once-promising Joey Harrington. Sunday’s 414 passing yards looks impressive, but that came from 62 passing attempts. He completed 33 of them with a 53% completion rate, which is not exactly impressive. However, for his defense, two of those interceptions came on pointed balls and seven of his passes were dropped. In any case, don’t rush to the waiver wire to pick it up. His performance came against a putrid Green Bay secondary and out of a game against Detroit; the rest of the Miami schedule is not very favorable. Will Culpepper regain the starting job once he returns? Who knows, but I know I shouldn’t believe in this situation. APPROVE

Mark Brunell, Washington Redskins: 226 passing yards, 2 TDs

Mark Brunell has been one of the most inconsistent Fantasy quarterbacks this year. He’ll do well against the good secondaries and then he’ll play horrible against the bad guys. While Indianapolis doesn’t have a great secondary, they aren’t bad either, and he managed to get 226 yards and 2 touchdowns. Offensive coordinator Al Saunders was supposed to unleash this offense in Washington, but for some reason he hasn’t. One could look beyond his inability to properly use Santana Moss. They constantly use short routes; however, his best receiver is an impressive deep threat. All things considered, Brunell is an intriguing recruit because of the favorable schedule the rest of the way and he has the tools on offense to get better numbers. I can’t recommend it as a starter, but it’s certainly worth a spot on the list as a reserve if you need it. TO BUY

Jon Kitna, Detroit Lions – 269 passing yards, 3 TDs, 2 INT

If you look at the best fantasy quarterbacks, you’ll see Jon Kitna on that list. Wait, Jon Kitna? Surprisingly, he has not thrown less than 225 in a game this year and has 10 total touchdowns in his last 5 games. On the other hand, he has also been consistent with turnovers by delivering the ball at least once in his last 6 games, a total of 12 turnovers in total. So unfortunately what you see is what you get with Kitna. His schedule is mixed the rest of the way, but he does have a very good matchup against Green Bay during the Fantasy Football playoffs. If it’s still available, grab it and put it in your bank. It is worth the post on the list. TO BUY

David Carr, Houston Texans – 224 passing yards, 2 TD

David Carr has been one of the best stories in the NFL. Believed to be in the bubble for his work when the season started, he has compiled a good passer rating of 97.9 and completed 70% of his passes. While that’s certainly worthy of a starting QB in the NFL, in the world of Fantasy Football, we need more than that. If you discount the Dallas game, Carr has been very consistent. He still plays a bad offensive line, so instead of worrying about interceptions, you will continue to worry about fumbles. It has some good matchups mixed with some bad, so it’s hard to say what to expect the rest of the way. Carr plays on a poor team, but if they start to play better (like they did against Jacksonville) then it would be worth a pickup along the way. LOOK

Charlie Batch, Pittsburgh Steelers – 195 passing yards, 2 TDs

During the middle of the third quarter against the Falcons on Sunday, Ben Roethlisberger was eliminated from the game, allowing veteran Charlie Batch to come in and do some damage. Batch completed 8 of 13 passes for 195 yards and 2 TDs. This isn’t the first time this season that Batch has looked good. He started the first game of the season against Miami and threw for 209 yards and 3 touchdowns in that game. The Steelers offense doesn’t seem to miss a beat when he’s in, and I personally think he looks better than Roethlisberger. Even if Batch finds more starts because of Roethlistberger’s injuries, the schedule is not very favorable, although he dismantled a good Falcons secondary. Pay attention to what is happening in Pittsburgh. Lot can be a good move if you find time. LOOK

RB’s

Leon Washington, New York Jets: 129 rushing yards, 2 TD

It appears that the New York Jets have finally settled on a starter in the form of Leon Washington. The Florida State rookie is playing pretty well, averaging 4.9 yards per carry and run for his first 2 touchdowns last Sunday. While Jets head coach Eric Mangini says he will still share carries with Barlow, he got more on Sunday and it will be hard not to give him more football based on his recent performances. As for the rest of the Jets’ schedule, 5 of the 9 games are against poor defenses. The only thing that hurts Washington is that he may not take the carries at the goal line, but you can’t pass up a productive starting running back. TO BUY

Wali Lundy, Houston Texans – 93 rushing yards, 15 yards, 1 TD

Another rookie who made noise was Wali Lundy. He rushed for 93 yards on just 19 carries and one TD. He didn’t get started, but he got more carries and was much more effective than Samkon Gado. Lundy has yet to receive the official tag as a starter, but it could be a matter of time. Of course I’d like to see more before I decide to pick it up, but the Houston schedule the rest of the way is FULL of poor defenses. This situation deserves your full attention. LOOK

Maurice Jones-Drew, Jacksonville Jaguars – 10 rushing yards, 58 receiving yards, 1 TD

Another game, another touchdown for Maurice Jones-Drew. Although he only rushed for 10 yards on 8 carries against a poor running defense, he had a total of 15 keys, showing that Jacksonville includes him heavily in the game plan. He now has 5 touchdowns in the last 4 games. Jacksonville also has a light schedule against running defenses and Fred Taylor always seems to get hurt at some point in the season. If it’s still available, you should go get it now while you have the chance. TO BUY

WR’s

Marty Booker, Miami Dolphins – 110 receptions, 1 TD

The Miami Dolphins offense threw the ball 62 times, and one of the beneficiaries was Marty Booker. But I’m going to make this short and sweet; His performance came against a very ugly Green Bay secondary, he has yet to separate from Derek Hagan or Wes Welker for more playing time and the quarterback situation remains unresolved. This is an anomaly. APPROVE

Mike Furrey, Pittsburgh Steelers: 109 catches, 1 TD

Mike Furrey certainly surprised a lot of people by becoming Detroit’s second wide receiver. He played well again Sunday, rushing for 109 yards and a TD. He’s been a hot and cold catcher this season, looking good one week (82 yards and 2 TD’s against St. Louis) and then averaging the next (80 combined yards against Minnesota and Buffalo). He hasn’t played bad in any way, he’s just been consistently mediocre. There aren’t many good matchups the rest of the way, but as long as he’s a starter in Detroit, he’s worth following. LOOK

Marcus Robinson, Minnesota Vikings – 77 rec yds, 1 TD

Marcus Robinson had his third touchdown of the year and contributed 77 total yards in the Vikings’ kill of the Seahawks. Robinson can be a nice, deep threat from time to time, but he hurts himself too much and is not the focal point of the Vikings’ offense. Pretend you’ve never heard the name before. APPROVE

Nate Washington, Pittsburgh Steelers: 76 receptions, 1 TD

Everyone jumped into that high-scoring affair against the Falcons, including Nate Washington. For the second week in a row he has scored a touchdown and over 65 yards. He’s becoming a very good # 3 pick for the Steelers, but that doesn’t mean a thing to your fantasy team. Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes are still ahead of him on the depth chart and both looked good on Sunday. Third-party receivers have no fancy value. APPROVE
