Burning calories and losing weight can be fun with Wii Fit!

Nintendo Wii Fit sold over 770,000 copies as of January 2009. Why was Wii Fit the most popular video game? This game outsold all Xbox or PS 3 games combined. Why is an exercise video game the most popular game in the world? Generally, the most popular games are shooting games, such as those mainly distributed by Xbox and PS3. But for the Nintendo Wii it’s an exercise game. Fitness games are so popular because they make exercise so much more enjoyable. In general, I haven’t had any interest in video games; I never played them, until the Nintendo Wii was introduced. With many of the sports games and fitness games that the Nintendo Wii uses, sports become fun. I like to use Tiger Woods Golf, Wii Sports, Top Spin 3, etc. These are all the games I play regularly.

Wii Fit really makes exercise enjoyable Turns exercise into an enjoyable game. It is for this reason that many hospitals are using this Nintendo Wii game to rehabilitate stroke victims because it is more enjoyable than the traditional way of rehabilitation. These patients can respond immediately to a change in their center of balance and really enjoy playing the mini-games. Many patients will play the minigames well beyond the allotted time.

The Nintendo Wii Fit includes aerobics, yoga exercises, strength training, and balance mini-games. For the most part, I do aerobic exercises. I’ll do some of the yoga exercises to cool down. The balance minigames are really fun, but I don’t really think they contribute to a good calorie-burning workout like aerobics. I will play the mini games with my stepchildren as these are the only games that appeal to them.

The main reason I think the Nintendo Wii Fit is great is because it makes exercise more enjoyable. Compare playing this game to working out in a boring gym for half an hour or working out in the luxury of your own living room. There is no comparison to Wii Fit and the drudgery of working out at the gym. I can even watch TV when I run.
