What are the basic principles of conversational hypnosis?

When we think of hypnosis, the first thing that comes to mind is men in capes and white gloves swinging pendulums and telling people they’re “sleepy.” However, there is a much more powerful form of hypnosis known as conversational hypnosis. Essentially, this is where you convince others to believe what you say or do what you suggest without them realizing that you are influencing them. Hollywood immortalized conversational hypnosis in the Star Wars film series, where the Jedi Knights were able to influence those around them to believe what they said in order to get out of dangerous situations. In this article I will reveal the basic principles of conversational hypnosis that will allow you to subliminally persuade others.

Building rapport with whoever your “target” is is the first of the basic tenets of conversational hypnosis. This involves agreeing with what they say in a controlled and undetectable way so that they feel relaxed. Here’s an example of how to build a relationship with a “target”:

Let’s say you and your “target” are stuck in an elevator in an office block. After a few minutes of pressing buttons, they decide that there is no immediate way out of the elevator. Starting to panic, then they tell you “there’s no way out of this elevator, we’re trapped!” The average person would respond with something like “no, don’t worry, we’ll be out of here soon.”

However, according to the basic principles of conversational hypnosis, you should establish a relationship with the person by responding something like “yes, we are trapped and there is absolutely no way out.” Although it sounds like a strange thing to say, it will actually lower their subliminal defense barrier as they will feel comforted by the fact that you agree with them.

Next, you need to add complications to the situation to confuse them and leave them open to what you have to say. Using the elevator example again, you could go to the “target” and say something like “but what if someone else notices the elevator is stuck and calls the technicians?” or even something as simple as “how do you know you won’t eventually think of a solution”.

By confusing them, they open themselves wide to a suggestion that will allow them to think clearly again. However, they will think whatever you have suggested to them because you have established a relationship with the person and they now trust your opinion. Still using the elevator example, you might suggest that the person “sit back and relax because help is coming soon.” If you’ve practiced the basics of conversational hypnosis correctly, they’ll do what you suggest, or, at worst, at least be open to what you have to say. If this happens, you should simply repeat the process until your suggestion is fully accepted.

In this article I have shown you the basic principles of conversational hypnosis. Just to recap they are;

1. Build a relationship with the person by agreeing with what they have to say.

2. Stealthily bring confusion into the conversation to leave them open to what YOU have to say.

3. Make a suggestion that they will then latch on to so they won’t be confused.
