The importance of kitchen cabinet dimensions

When you are designing a new kitchen, the dimensions of the kitchen cabinet are of great importance. This is because you need to know the size of each cabinet piece and have room for your appliances. With so many different ways to make cabinets, you can have a mix of wide and narrow doors, as well as pantry-style cabinets with pull-out drawers and shelves.

If you plan to have the sink facing a window, make sure it is in the center of the window. You can then measure the space on both sides for the cabinets. If you plan to have a dishwasher, then this should go next to the sink. The refrigerator and stove should never be placed next to each other. The kitchen design must have space for both and for the extractor hood. If you want to have a combination microwave and range hood, this will affect the dimensions of the cabinets above the range.

You should plan on at least 50 square feet of storage space in your kitchen cabinets. This includes the upper and lower cabinets. There should be a row of drawers where you can store your utensils and you can plan to have them by the stove or sink, whichever works best for you. Wall cabinets are typically 12-13 inches deep and can be 12-34 inches high. When you add the two inches for the countertop, your cabinets will be the standard height of 3 feet.

Special cabinets are available for corner spaces, called garages, where you can put your appliances out of sight and roll down a roll-up door. In lower corner cabinets, you can opt for a Lazy Susan that swings out, making it super easy to reach items you place inside. These devices are made to fit standard corner cabinet dimensions.

Although the cabinets are a standard height, you can have the upper cabinets reach the ceiling, install a screen so there is no gap between the cabinets and the ceiling, or stagger the heights of each to give your kitchen a different appeal.
