While there is sound reasoning behind my husband’s latest “adventure” of applying for a job in Ft. Greely, Alaksa and his “high three” before he retired, he is 53 years old after all!

He has the “promotion” and is installing all the necessary equipment and vehicle heaters in preparation for the next 3-5 years living on base in Ft. Greely to work on the missile defense shield.

My husband is a California born and raised individual from Sacramento until we moved to North Carolina to be closer to our son and grandson in 2002. This move has created a monster along with the Discovery Channel shows he watches without fail.

I spent 18 months building our dream home here on 3 acres that I will now be cutting down. We have two older Pembroke Welsh Corgis that cannot “pass inspection” to go through Canada or tolerate the cold.

My husband sees this move as an adventure, I’ll give him November to April to come to his senses. On the plus side, you are eligible for retirement if it becomes unbearable, you can just retire. At the moment he is considering another move on this project to Poland!

I feel like someone dropped me in the middle of a Holiday Inn Express commercial! You know the one, right? Where a stranger appears on the scene and offers advice on any subject and when asked if he’s a doctor or whatever fits the scene, he replies, “No, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.”

I do not believe that to see Man vs. Wild qualifies you anyway to brave the Alaskan winter. Shouldn’t there be a warning label on these shows from the Surgeon General or someone warning people not to try this at home or it could negatively affect their health?

On a more serious note, my husband is a very dedicated government employee who has the knowledge and experience to work with Boeing, the prime contractor, to make a difference.

His continued commitment to our marriage and our future in our retirement years has been steadfast over the years. We have friends questioning our health over this decision. Family that has expressed negative opinions.

My mixed emotions range from “proud” to “furious” at the moment. Once they get established, I’ll find someone to take care of the shipping for the store and join him in the summer.

I support his decision just as he has supported my early retirement, going back to school, and starting a business. After all, isn’t a good marriage one in which the two of you can also be individuals?

In the meantime, I’ll be tuning in to Lifetime TV’s new show “Army Wives” for some tips on coping skills.
